dc.description.abstractRecent advancements in computer hardware and software technology have enabled industry to develop affordable automated biometrics-based authentication systems. Since human iris possesses very complex texture pattern, a novel approach based on fractal dimension for recognizing the iris of the human eye is presented in this paper. Fractal dimension values of iris blocks are computed by using five different fractal dimension estimate algorithms and two recognition techniques are employed to identify iris patterns for personal authentication. A prototype system, named Automated Iris Recognition System-AIRS, has been developed and simulation results are given.
