題名: Fully Routed IP Service of the NGN - the Case Study of the Routing Management for the NBEN

摘要: Recently, many countries around the world have all focused their efforts in implementing the high-speed broadband network system. Efforts were also made to develop the technologies for the essential communication equipments and transmission protocol standards. To overcome the existing network’s limitations, the next generation networks (NGNs) will adopt either ATM, IP or both as their core framework which will be fully implemented in the broadband backbone as the convergence structure. The major goal of the NGNs need to fulfill the following requirements: 1) it provides the capabilities to converge multimedia (video/audio) and data transmission. 2) it should be cheaper and more efficient than current available packet-switching and high speed network. To improve the network facilities and bandwidth limitation in Taiwan, NSC (National Science Council) has launched the National Broadband Experimental Network (NBEN) and TANet2 projects. One of the benefits from those projects is to make the Internet usage highly possible in most of the junior high and elementary schools across the country which is initiated by the Executive Yuan of R.O.C. As a result, the environment of network education and researches in Taiwan has moved into a new era. Currently, TANet, TANet2, NBEN all faces the similar management challenges: the service provider must focus on the management of network monitoring and its associated administration works regardless of the utilized deployment. The performance of IP and ATM networking is directly related to its networking data flow. As the scale in network becomes larger or more complex, factors such as overcoming bottlenecks, optimizing the performance, and monitoring the data flow are critical elements to manage and control. In this study, we have developed new routing policy to ensure the success of running Fully Routed IP in NBEN backbone. The current network framework of NGNs is to deploy IP over ATM and the trend is toward in deploying IP over SONET or DWDM. In the future, NBEN will move forward to provide the ATM Service and SDH Service with the applications of DiffServ and QoS technologies.
