An Extension of C Preprocessor Directives for Device Programming

Abstract

Writing device driver has always been tedious and error-prone. Traditionally, C programmers exploit preprocessor directives to facilitate the driver development. In this paper, we follow this programming style and extend preprocessor directives to improve the development. The extension makes the C driver code more readable and concise. Furthermore, our complier provides stronger type-checking capability than original C compiler. Current assessment for an embedded Linux environment shows favorable results.
